“Table it is, then.” Daphne lead Jonah toward an empty table along the wall. It was surprisingly scarce inside. She sat down in the chair, exhausted. “It feels good to just sit down without having paperwork or something to do in front of me.”

Jonah let himself be lead to a table next to the wall. He couldn’t help but wonder what other people thought when they saw him and Daphne, here, together, just the two of them. Looking back to her, he gave an embarrassed smile. “Yes, well, the paperwork is kind of my fault, so I do apologise for that. But I know what you mean, it is nice to be able to just sit and relax.”

She still couldn’t get over the fact that Jonah, Dr. Fox, her boss was in a bar. With her. Maybe this would cause him to break out of his shell a bit more. Maybe loosen up slightly. “I’m going to head up to the bar and get us our drinks. What do you want?” If he said Coke or water…

Jonah frowned at Daphne’s question. What did he want? Beer had never appealed to him, and he wasn’t very fond of wine either. He didn’t want to seem like an inexperienced fool, so he just smiled and shrugged his shoulders. “Erm, well, how about you, er, surprise me?”

Daphne raised an eyebrow, impressed. New York City seemed to be far to busy for chivalry now-a-days. She strode into the part, silently praying that there wouldn’t be any familiar faces. She did not want to deal with any awkward interactions. “Do you want to sit at the bar or a table?”

Jonah followed behind Daphne and looked around the place. He could count the number of times he had been in a bar on one hand, including this time, so he wasn’t really sure what the normal protocol was. “Erm, well, do you, I mean we could, er, sit at a table? Or the bar, if you want? I, ah, I don’t mind.”

”Ah, that’s erm, good.” Jonah had never been good with small talk, and even worse when it came to talking to members of the opposite sex. He looked up and saw the sign for the bar, and he sped up a little to hold the door open for Daphne.

Jonah watched Daphne walk in the opposite direction to what he had expected her to. Not much of a walker, Jonah just nodded his head at her question and tried to keep up with her surprisingly fast pace. “So, is this place a, er, I mean, do you go here frequently?”

Daphne slowed down slightly, falling into step with Jonah as they approached the bar. She immediately felt slightly awkward, not wanting to bring up all of the failed dating attempts that this place had provided her. It was the most convenient place near her work, so it was one of the most common spots that her dates had brought her too. Yes, she had been here a lot. Normally, there would be no problem to talk about this to her friends, but this was her boss she was with.

“Yeah, I come here occasionally.”

Jonah quickly stepped into his office, put on his coat and retrieved his satchel. Turning off the lights and locking the door behind him, he smiled at Daphne as he made his way over to her. “Well, er, after you, Dr. Kelly,” he opened the door, nervously looking anywhere but at her. What if she changed her mind?

Daphne confidently strode out of the building into the calm night. Well, as calm as you could get for New York. Instead of heading toward the curb to flag down a taxi or even to the parking garage where her car was parked, she took a sharp left, looking over her shoulder to make sure Jonah was following. She could be quite a fast walker when she wanted to be. “Coming? It’ll be a lot faster if we walked there considering it’s at the end of this block.”

Jonah couldn’t stop the large grin that appeared on his face. She had just actually agreed to go, with him, to get a drink. “Great! I’ll just, I’ll just go get my coat and bag, okay?”

“Yeah, sure.” She opened the door to her office, turning off the lights behind her. Daphne had overheard the receptionist talking about Lewis’ visit to the office earlier, so she figured that was the reason Jonah needed a drink. I mean, despite how out of character Jonah was being, Armie had a tendency to infuriate even the tamest of people so she couldn’t be all that surprised he was acting this way.

so yes or no?

You are very persistant, aren’t you, Mr Anonymous?

Daphne raised her eyebrows, watching Jonah trip over his words nervously. She refrained from smirking, biting her lip instead. Poor guy. It was difficult to picture Jonah out amidst the nightlife in New York City. With a drink in his hand, at that.

“I’m always up for a drink after work. And you came to the right person on where to go. There’s a small place right down the street from here.” She decided on a less ‘wild’ place, not wanting to freak him out completely. It was more laid back and quiet than some of the more…party bars

Daphne had just finished half of her research paper, that she was to present at some college, when she decided to call it quits for the day. Why on earth had she agreed to writing this? She blew her bangs out of her face in exhaustion when she heard the knock at the door.

“Come in.”

Jonah opened the door and hesitantly stepped inside Dr. Kelly’s office. “I hope that I, that I am not er, disturbing you.” He flashed her a small smile and took a step closer to her desk. “I was just, well wondering, really, if you were busy?”

Daphne picked up her bag, slinging it over her shoulder, standing up from behind her desk. “I actually just finished up here and was about to leave. Why? What’s up?” She pushed her chair in, walking around her desk to where Jonah was standing. She readjusted the bag strap on her shoulder, watching him hesitantly. If he asked her to file do one more report she might just explode…

”Ah well, that’s erm, good. I was well, I was just, er,” Jonah started to feel even more awkward. How hard should it be just to ask this small woman infront of him out for a drink? Clearing his throat, Jonah tried again. “I am just having, well a really bad, no awful, day. And I could, I could really use a drink. But I, well I don’t exactly know, erm, where to go? Do you, maybe, erm, want to, well, you know. Go, together?”
